Tata Motors has launched the updated 2025 version of its Altroz premium hatchback in India. This Tata Altroz 2025 holds special significance as it was Tata’s first entry into the premium hatchback segment and quickly gained recognition for its sturdy build quality and safety credentials. In 2020, the Altroz made headlines by becoming the first car in its segment to earn a 5-star rating in Global NCAP crash tests. With the new 2025 facelift, Tata aims to exceed those safety standards, possibly through testing at the Bharat NCAP crash facility, though the official scores have not yet been disclosed.
Tata recently released a video on its YouTube channel showcasing the facelifted Altroz undergoing rigorous crash tests. The tests included the front offset deformable barrier crash at 64 kmph and a side mobile barrier crash at 50 kmph. In the front crash, the Altroz’s crumple zone effectively absorbed the impact, while the A-pillar, underbody, and passenger cabin remained stable and intact. Airbags deployed on time, providing ample protection to occupants. Notably, the 2025 Altroz now comes with six airbags as standard, enhancing its safety credentials.
Is it going to be 5 stars again?
In the side impact test, the vehicle absorbed the shock effectively, with body panels and the reinforced B-pillar maintaining their structural integrity. Tata is using Ultra High Strength Steel in the construction of the Altroz, significantly contributing to its crash resilience. During the side pole crash test, the curtain airbags deployed on time, and child occupants in the rear seats were kept safe, further demonstrating the car’s strong protective features.
Although Tata has not officially confirmed the Altroz’s updated crash test rating, the video suggests that the model is likely to retain or even exceed its earlier 5-star Global NCAP rating under the stricter Bharat NCAP protocols.
New Tata Altroz Gets Multiple Transmission Options, CNG Variant Arriving Soon
Mechanically, the Altroz remains the only hatchback in its class to offer petrol, diesel, and CNG powertrains. The diesel variant features a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine available with a manual transmission only. The petrol version uses a 1.2-litre, naturally aspirated, 3-cylinder engine paired with multiple transmission options, including a 5-speed manual, AMT, and a DCA (dual-clutch automatic). Tata is also reportedly planning to launch an AMT version of the Altroz with iCNG in the near future.
The 2025 Altroz is available in five trims: Smart, Pure, Creative, Accomplished S, and Accomplished+ S. It competes directly with rivals like the Hyundai i20 and starts at a price of ₹6.89 lakh (ex-showroom), going up to ₹11.29 lakh for the top-end variant.
