Nothing Phone 3: Get ready, tech fans, because the Nothing Phone 3 is just around the corner, and it’s already stirring up quite a conversation! Nothing recently confirmed that their upcoming “true flagship” phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip. Now, for some folks, that immediately raised an eyebrow. If it’s a “true flagship,” shouldn’t it have the absolute top-tier processor? This little detail has certainly kicked off a bit of a Nothing Phone 3 chipset controversy.
The Chipset Choice: Why the 8s Gen 4?
So, if the Nothing Phone 3 price is going to be around that $799 mark (as CEO Carl Pei hinted), how exactly does Nothing plan to justify that premium without a “Snapdragon 8 Gen 3” or similar high-end chip? That’s a fair question many are asking.
Nothing co-founder Akis Evangelidis explained why Nothing Phone 3 employs 8s Gen 4. He said that although a processor such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 may be stronger on paper, it somehow comes with a less powerful GPU, NPU, connectivity, and ISP, and has only a four-year software lifecycle. The major difference-maker for the Nothing Phone 3? It’s going to get 7 years’ worth of software updates and 5 years’ worth of security updates. This longevity of updates appears to be Nothing’s response to the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 vs 8 Gen 3 Nothing Phone 3, framing software longevity as a flagship feature.
Launching Soon & Growing Pains (or Gains!)
The wait is almost over! The official Nothing Phone 3 launch is pegged for July 1, 2025. It’s been nearly two years since the Phone 2 came out in July 2023, and anticipation for its successor has definitely been building.
In the meantime, Nothing hasn’t been idle. They’ve really expanded their reach, diving into the mid-range with the Phone 2a and Phone 3a series, and even launching their budget-friendly CMF sub-brand, which includes phones like the CMF Phone 1 and Phone 2 Pro, plus a range of affordable audio gear. But even with all that diversification, the Nothing Phone 3 is expected to be their big return to the premium smartphone scene, aiming to be the definitive high-end follow-up to the Phone 2.
What Will It Cost You?
Let’s talk about the Nothing Phone 3 price. Carl Pei recently suggested a premium price point of around $800 on “The Android Show: I/O Edition.” In India, that could translate to nearly ₹90,000, which would be a pretty big leap from the Phone 2’s launch price of ₹44,999.
Globally, we’re looking at expected price tags of $799 and $899, roughly ₹68,000 and ₹77,000 respectively. However, Indian pricing usually gets a bit of a break compared to European and UK markets. While Pei’s comments point to a more upscale pricing strategy, it’s probably unlikely they’d nearly double the price for their Indian fan base. A sudden ₹45,000 jump might not sit well with a community that’s come to expect a good balance of design, innovation, and value from Nothing.
A more realistic scenario for the Nothing Phone 3 price in India might be closer to ₹60,000 to ₹65,000. This would put the Phone 3 in direct competition with premium mid-rangers like Google’s Pixel 9a (around ₹49,999) and Apple’s iPhone 16e (around ₹59,900). If Nothing chooses this more strategic pricing, the Phone 3 could really hit a sweet spot, offering those “flagship-grade” features without venturing into the ultra-premium territory of other brands.
