India’s most affordable 5G phone is here! Lava Shark 5G packs Android 15, 90Hz display, and 5000mAh battery for just ₹7,999.

Lava, the indigenous Indian smartphone maker, has brought a new player to the affordable 5G segment with the launch of its latest model, the Shark 5G. At a competitive price of just ₹7,999, the launch is focused on taking on the traditional low-cost 5G incumbents like Redmi, Realme, Infinix, and Poco. By providing 5G features at an aggressive price, Lava is looking to change consumer perception in the budget segment.

Design and Storage

The Lava Shark 5G is available in just one configuration with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. Not only do users benefit from virtual RAM extension to 8GB, but they also find support for expanding storage through the use of microSD cards. Contrary to its affordability, the phone’s back panel is smooth, with a shiny finish that provides it with a sleek, premium look. The smartphone will be available in both online and offline retail stores operated by Lava in India.

Performance and Display

At its foundation, the Lava Shark 5G is driven by the Unisoc T765 5G octa-core processor, a 6nm-based chip. This guarantees good performance and stable 5G connectivity for routine use. The phone features a large 6.75-inch HD+ screen with a 90Hz refresh rate, delivering fluid animations and improved responsiveness during scrolling or browsing.

Battery and Charging

Powering the Lava Shark 5G is a 5000mAh battery, and charging can be done via 18W fast charging using a USB Type-C port. The pairing holds out the promise of long-endurance battery life and rapid recharging for users requiring a reliable daily driver.

Camera and Software

The camera on the Lava Shark 5G is managed by a 13MP AI rear camera that is appropriate for light photography requirements and a 5MP front-facing camera that comes in handy for selfies and video calls. Android 15, the new version of Google’s OS, is the operating system of the phone, which provides new features and security.

Durability and After-Sales Support

The phone has an IP54 rating, offering dust and minor water splash protection. Adding to the ownership experience, Lava is also providing a free doorstep service for 1 year, reflecting a strong commitment to customer support and satisfaction.

Market Impact and Competition

With the introduction of the Shark 5G, Lava is now a serious player in the affordable 5G smartphone segment. The price point and feature list are meant to entice customers who would otherwise look to Redmi, Realme, Infinix, or Poco alternatives. This also fits with Lava’s focus on pushing Made-in-India smartphones and gaining more market share in a fiercely competitive space.
