This guide shows you how to clean up HyperOS by disabling intrusive ads and uninstalling unwanted bloatware from your Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO smartphone. Follow these simple steps to improve your phone’s performance, save battery, and enjoy a clutter-free user experience.

How to Remove Ads and Bloatware from HyperOS:  If you’re using a new Xiaomi, Redmi, or POCO phone, chances are you’re dealing with HyperOS, the brand’s latest Android-based software skin. Just like its older cousin MIUI, HyperOS is loaded with features—but not all of them are useful. In fact, many users find the built-in ads and bloatware pretty annoying.

So, if you’re looking to make your phone cleaner, more private, and better on battery, you’re in the right place. I’ve tested these steps myself on the Redmi 13 5G, and the same process should work across most devices running HyperOS.

Let’s Start with Removing Ads from HyperOS

Quick note before we begin: Back up your important data. And please don’t remove anything essential—some system components are important for your phone to function properly.

1. Turn Off System-Wide Ads

To cut off system-level ad tracking and personalization:

  • Head to Settings

  • Tap Fingerprints, face data, and screen lock

  • Go to Privacy

  • Now turn off:

    • User Experience Program

    • Usage and diagnostics

    • Personalized ads

  • Then go back, tap on Authorization and revocation, and turn off System Daemon and msa

2. Stop Ads in System Apps

A bunch of default HyperOS apps show ads—like the Security app, Music, File Manager, Browser, Themes, and Downloads. To turn them off:

  • Open each app individually

  • Tap the 3-dot menu or gear icon to open Settings

  • Find the Recommendations or Show ads toggle and turn it off

3. Remove App Suggestions from the App Drawer

  • Open your app drawer

  • Tap the gear icon (usually top-right)

  • Turn off App suggestions

And that’s one less thing to be annoyed by.

Tired of random wallpapers with ads popping up? Here’s how to get rid of that:

  • Open Settings

  • Tap Apps > Manage apps

  • In the top-right menu, tap Show all apps

  • Search for Wallpaper Carousel and uninstall it

5. Disable Security Scan Ads

When you install an app, that little scan might pop up with ads. To stop that:

  • Open the Security app

  • Tap the gear icon for Settings

  • Go to Security scan

  • Turn off Scan before installing

6. Block Annoying App Notifications

If a particular app keeps spamming you with useless notifications:

  • Long-press the app icon > tap App info

  • Go to Notifications

  • Either turn off all notifications or selectively disable the annoying ones

Bonus tip: You can also go to the Connection method setting in App info and turn off Mobile data if you don’t want the app going online unnecessarily.

Now, Let’s Deal with HyperOS Bloatware

Removing bloatware—those pre-installed apps you don’t use—can really speed up your phone. But again, be careful not to remove anything important.

1. Uninstall Unwanted Apps One by One

  • Open the app drawer

  • Long-press any app you want to delete

  • Tap the minus (–) icon and hit Remove

Or:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps

  • Select the app and tap Uninstall

If uninstall isn’t available, try Disabling the app.

2. Remove Multiple Apps at Once

If you want to clean up in bulk:

  • Go to Settings > Home screen > Home screen mode

  • Switch to Classic

  • On your home screen, long-press an empty space

  • Now select multiple apps and tap the minus (–) icon to uninstall

Easy cleanup in just a few taps.

3. For Advanced Users: Use Universal Android Debloater

If you’re someone who knows their way around tech tools, try the Universal Android Debloater from GitHub. This tool lets you remove system apps that otherwise can’t be deleted.

Just be sure you know what you’re doing—this tool is powerful and shouldn’t be used casually.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is HyperOS bloatware?

Bloatware refers to the apps that come pre-installed on your device but don’t really serve a purpose for you. They can take up storage, battery, and memory. You can look up HyperOS bloatware lists shared by other users on Reddit to get an idea of what’s safe to remove.

What are HyperOS ads?

These are advertisements that appear in various parts of the HyperOS interface—from system settings to stock apps. Thankfully, they can be turned off by changing a few key settings, as described above.

Is bloatware bad?

Not always—but in most cases, bloatware takes up valuable space and slows down your phone. If you don’t use them, it’s better to remove or disable them to improve performance and free up resources.
